Error: "Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart. We're just collect info, and then we'll restart for you"

I am trying to install W8 from a DVD. Unfortunately it has entered a dead loop.  The installation always ends with a blue screen with the following message shown in a split of a second:

"Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart. We're just collect info, and then we'll restart for you"

I have to use a video camera with a tripod to catch the message that is displayed for about a quarter of a second.

The PC has an SSD and an HD.  I tried both of them as the primary with the same result.

Any tip will be greatly appreciated.

I want do add that this PC should be fine because it was running Windows Server 2008 R2.  After this problem occurred, I started PC again with the HD running the server, and everything works fine.

I thought the upgrading route might work, so I installed Windows 7 on this PC without any problem, and tried to run the Windows 8 DVD to upgrade, but the problem remained.

Running Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant found the following two issues:

  1.        Install an app to play DVDs
  2.       Secure Boot isnt compatible with your PC.

I thought these were optional features that should not prevent W8 installation.

I have run out of ideas.

Hallelujah!  W8 is up and running.

In summary:

To have a clean installation of W8 in this case:

  1.        Install W7
  2.       Run setup.exe on the installation DVD while running W7, and choose keep nothing

Apparently, W8 is not capable of being installed by itself under this circums

Thank you!  Finally something that works.

It would have been nice if Microsoft had mentioned that this could happen.   Preferably on the download page for hyper-v 2012 (in my case).

Just odd that after googling this issue dozens of times that this is the only place that had exactly my problem and the workaround.

Update - I spoke too soon.  After the first setup reboot, it gives the same message and started the same reboot loop.

Update 2 - Don't forget to update the BIOS.  After updating the BIOS, the problem went away.  Microsoft, please suggest that people check to make sure their BIOS is up to date before trying to install Hyper-v 2012.
